Why donate to Goodwill?
When you generously donate your gently-used items to your local Goodwill SCWI, you’re helping people achieve their highest level of independence through the power of work.
Your gently used donated items are sold in our stores or through our online auction site, shopgoodwillmadison.com. Textiles not sold to the public are used to make various products such as carpet pads and sent through recycling streams. Through the Dell Reconnect computer recycling program any donated computer equipment (working or not) is responsibly recycled or resold.
Plus: We can recycle old strings of holiday lights! While these are not appropriate for your city recycling program, Goodwill SCWI will happily accept donations of holiday lights for responsible recycling.
Your material donations benefit our planet. Over 14 million pounds of donated goods are diverted from area landfills annually and were instead used to generate revenue for services that make a positive impact in the lives of area residents.
If you itemize your tax deductions, you can deduct your financial donations and/or the value of your donated materials. Goodwill International offers a Valuation Guide to assist you in this process. For detailed information, please consult your accountant, attorney or an IRS office.
81 percent of our revenue is generated through the sale of goods donated by the community!
