Why donate to Goodwill?
When you donate cash, clothing, household items, motor vehicles or computer equipment, you’re providing life-changing services for residents in our community with disabilities or other challenges.
Your gently used donated items are sold in our stores or through our online auction site, shopgoodwillmadision.com. Textiles not sold to the public are used to make products such as carpet pads or are sold to third world countries where there is a great need for clothing. Donated computer equipment not sold to the public is sold to a recycler who, among other things, will not export waste.
Your material donations also benefit our planet. In 2015 alone, 15,406,345 pounds of donated goods were diverted from area landfills and were instead used to generate revenue for services that make a positive impact in the lives of area residents.
If you itemize your tax deductions, you can deduct your financial donations and/or the value of your donated materials. Goodwill International offers a Valuation Guide to assist you in this process. For detailed information, please consult your accountant, attorney or an IRS office.
81 percent of our revenue is generated through the sale of goods donated by the community!
